Nothing saves your butt from a LAST MINUTE Halloween party invite quite like a simple, LBD – little black dress.
A classic LBD serves as the perfect base for so many quick and easy costume ideas. Perfect to throw some accessories onto and create a full look. You can always just order a set of accessories from Amazon, or head to a local party supply store for a pre-packaged accessory bundle (think cat ears, devil horns, a halo and wings, etc.)… but in today’s post, I’m sharing my completely DIY version of a lace-y bunny lewk.
MATERIALS
- 1/4 yard of lace fabric
- wide lace ribbon
- black ribbon
- needle & black thread
- black cord
- 2 hair elastics
- furry pom pom hair accessory
- black belt
- headband
- floral wire
MAKING THE HEADPIECE:
Take the floral wire and shape/mold your 2 ears. Then wrap the wire with black ribbon and sew it all around to secure it. Don’t worry about making the stitches look perfect, it all blends in and you can’t even see it when it’s done. (the picture above shows the back of the headpiece, so you can see all the messy stitches haha)
Next, take the lace fabric and cut 2 pieces a bit larger than the shape of the wire ears. Then take the needle and thread and sew the lace directly onto the ribbon covered wire. The ribbon gives the lace some extra sturdy material to adhere to.
When both ears are covered with lace, attach them to the headband by just wrapping the bottom sections of wire around the band.
To create the veil, measure (how much of your face you want to cover) and cut a piece of lace, and sew it onto the bottom part of the lace ears.
MAKING THE LACE CUFFS:
In a time crunch, all I ended up doing for this was cutting 2 long strips of lace ribbon and tucking them into a hair elastic on my wrist. This lasted all night and the best part is that you can still use the lace for another project later on.
MAKING THE CHOKER:
Take a piece of lace ribbon, and either sew or use fabric glue to attach some pieces of cord to the edges. Then use the cords to tie the choker at the back of the neck.
MAKING THE TAIL:
I was lucky to find this super cute little faux fur pom pom in my stash of hair accessories, so all I did was wrap the hair elastic part around a skinny black belt and that was it! Again, not permanent and non-damaging to your belt!
You could also glue a faux fur pom pom directly to a piece of ribbon and tie that around your waist instead.
THE MAKEUP:
To finish the costume, I went for a glam makeup look that subtly added in some bunny elements without going too full-out. For the eyes, I did a slightly exaggerated brown smokey eye with a wing and tons of glitter on the lids and inner corners. Then I used lipstick and eyeliner to create a heart-shaped bunny nose, added white face paint around the mouth, and white eyeliner to draw on some simple whiskers. Finished with lots of pink blush and a pink lip.
THE OUTFIT:
I used a little black dress as a starting point and just threw on all of the accessories. I added some pointy toe booties and the look was done!
This accessory bundle would also look super cute styled with a lace bodysuit and denim… OR a long-sleeved bodysuit and fishnet tights for a sexier vibe!
THE FINAL TOUCH:
Lots of body glow, shimmer & glitter!! <3
