Today’s post is all about how to make a pair of shoe clips. You may have seen them floating around on social media, thanks to the recent surge in popularity of strappy sandals with oversized orchids that seem to be taking the girly-pops by storm.
But, if you’re unfamiliar with the concept and wondering, “What exactly are shoe clips?” I’ve got you covered. Shoe clips are versatile and removable embellishments that can be attached to various types of footwear, from your casual everyday sneakers or flats, to elegant stilettos. They’re like a magic wand for your shoes, an instant transformation that elevates and makes them distinctly yours.

They’re the ultimate expression of personal style, allowing you to channel your inner fashionista without breaking the bank. This project is perfect for anyone who loves to experiment with their look, whether you identify as a bohemian spirit, a glam diva, or someone who simply likes infusing creativity into your wardrobe.
Plus, it’s a great project to upcycle and breathe new life into thrifted materials or broken jewelry. Tip: Look for large statement clip-on earrings, as they would be perfect for this project since they already come in pairs and often mirror each other in design.
Easy DIY Shoe Clips:

Materials:
This project can be customized to suit any personal style or aesthetic. For a feminine touch, consider using an orchid flower. If you prefer a moto-boho style, opt for something edgier like silver studs. For a glamorous look, a crystal brooch would be perfect. If the coquette aesthetic appeals to you, choose an oversized bow. Alternatively, for a minimalistic office siren appearance, a small cluster of pearls works wonderfully.
- Blank shoe clips
- Objects or materials of choice (e.g., faux orchid flowers, wide tulle ribbon)
- Craft felt in matching color to your chosen element
- Hot glue
- Super glue
- Needle and thread
- Scissors
- Note: if you are using something with a metal base (like jewelry) E6000 glue is your best bet for the most secure hold.

Bonus Tip: For those who love versatility, swap out the blank shoe clips for blank alligator hair clips. Just ensure they’re small enough to stay hidden when clipped onto shoes. Although this method might not be as secure, it offers more options for use.
Step-by-step Instructions: How to make an orchid flower clip

Cut the Felt: Start by cutting out a small circle of craft felt, slightly larger than your shoe clip. This will act as a sturdy base for your floral masterpiece.

Prepare the Flowers: Gather two matching faux orchid flowers. Make sure they’re facing the same direction for a uniform look. Turn them over and apply a dab of hot glue to the back of each flower. I grabbed my orchid flowers from a thrifted floral arrangement, but I found similar ones here. You may need to snip off a bit of the plastic stem from the back.

Attach the Felt: Place the felt circle onto the glued areas of the flowers. For an extra secure hold, add a drop of super glue. This dual-glue technique ensures your flowers won’t be going anywhere.
Secure the Clip: Now, take your shoe clip and apply a dab of super glue to the center of the felt circle. For faster setting, layer a drop of hot glue over the super glue before placing the larger side of the shoe clip down onto the glue-covered felt.

Reinforce with Stitches: Once everything is dry, reinforce the attachment with a few stitches through the small holes on the sides of the shoe clips. This step not only keeps your creation intact but also gives it a professional finish.
