Today I’m diving into the opulent and whimsical world of a Rococo themed party! Inspired by the resurgence of Rococo aesthetics – thanks in part to the beloved “Bridgerton” show – this party theme promises to transform any occasion into a delightful, pastel-hued affair.

Imagine a gathering where the air is filled with the fragrance of delicate florals, the soft rustle of taffeta skirts, and the gentle clinking of fine china teacups.

Guests can enjoy prancing around in lavish attire adorned with lace, silk, and intricate embroidery, embodying the extravagance of the era. The venue could be adorned with ornate decorations, featuring gilded frames, pastel-colored drapery, and floral arrangements that evoke the charm of a French garden.

Delightful treats served on elegant platters, such as macarons and delicate pastries, while a curated playlist of classical music enhances the experience. With a perfect blend of elegance and whimsy, this Rococo themed party would be a memorable celebration, inviting everyone to indulge in the era of grandeur.

I figured I would start virtually planning events right here on the blog: from the initial moodboard and color palette to the party favors and dress code ideas. I’ll even be including Spotify music playlists and invitation templates… because a great themed party is really all about the details.}

Mood Board + Color Palette

To capture the opulent Rococo vibe, I started by gathering images from Pinterest and creating a mood board in my digital party planner.

When creating mood boards, I enjoy incorporating inspiration for every aspect of the event, from food and attire to party favors. I make sure to gather ideas not only for significant decorations like table centerpieces and backdrops but also for the smaller details in between.

A palette of soft pastels sets the stage for a dreamy, romantic atmosphere. Think blush pinks, lavender hues, and gentle sky blues mixed with a few pops of vibrant berry shades. Add gold and silver accents to create a reflective and elegant touch throughout the decor.

Invitations

The invitation acts as a first impression. For a Rococo themed party, the invitations should whisper elegance and set the scene of extravagance.

Opt for a calligraphy-style font and a decorative border reminiscent of ornate mirrors.

Aside from displaying the overall theme and tone of the event, make sure your invitation includes all essential information like the date and time of the party, location, and any other relevant details like RSVP instructions, dress code, or carpool suggestions.

Alternatively, you can use Canva (my favorite online graphic design platform) to create digital invites for a more informal and relaxed approach to party planning. Make a 1080 x 1920 px sized graphic, save it to your phone, and then send it out to your guest list via text or email.

Decorations

For the decor, we’re aiming for an enchanted garden meets royal ballroom vibe. Hanging wisteria flowers add a touch of whimsy, while a large ornate frame serves as the perfect photo op backdrop or prop. Scatter butterflies and bees throughout the event space for a nod to nature.

Tables should be set with formal place settings, layered tableware, and lace runners. Add decorative cotton napkins and place cards to give your guests that extra special feeling and add a personalized touch.

If you’re lucky enough to have a chandelier in the venue, drape it with pearls and ribbons. If you’re outdoors, consider hanging a thrifted chandelier from a tree and let it twinkle in the sunlight.

Now, let’s talk food! Serve tea sandwiches and individual charcuterie in charming tea cups – the perfect excuse to hunt for mismatched thrifted or vintage tea cups for your collection. Add a three-tier stand for an elegant presentation of macarons and petit fours.

Go above and beyond by including extra luxurious details like sugar cubes and butter molds in the shape of swans. Sprinkle a few edible gold flakes over the desserts for that extra touch of opulence.

Signature Drink

For drinks, think iced tea garnished with edible flowers or a bubbly prosecco-based cocktail. And for your friends who prefer a non-alcoholic option, a refreshing mocktail with a colorful butterfly garnish will do the trick.

Activities + Favors

In my party planning series, I usually include a section about the dress code. While this is optional and depends on the type of event, a Rococo themed party is the ideal excuse to dress to the nines.

Encourage guests to channel their inner Regency-era aristocrat. Think lace gloves, corsets, and puffy skirts. For a modern twist, try ruffled bloomer shorts under an open petticoat cage with platform heels. Adorn yourself with pearls – either layered strands or a statement choker – and top it all off with an elaborate wig or a feathered headpiece. The more elaborate, the better!

Music

Last but definitely not least, make sure to prep a Spotify playlist ahead of time. No party is complete without the perfect soundtrack. Set the tone for the theme and fill the air with classical versions of modern hits. It’s the kind of playlist that’ll have your guests waltzing between sips of tea and exchanges of laughter.
