Last year I thrifted a charming mini Christmas tree and sadly never got around to decorating it. Standing at just about two feet tall, it’s the perfect canvas for all my DIY ornament dreams. But first, I’m giving it a snug new home inside a mini seagrass basket that I’m upcycling from an old faux plant.
One thing I love about a mini Christmas tree is that you can easily experiment with different tree themes and color palettes without having to completely overhaul your entire Christmas decor collection. Whether you’re going for a cozy, rustic vibe with natural elements or a whimsical wonderland with bright pops of color, you can create DIY ornaments that add a personal touch, making this tree uniquely yours.
If you’re looking to personalize your Christmas decor this year, these adorable DIY ornaments will add a touch of whimsy to your trees, wreaths, or mantlepieces. With just a handful of materials and a dash of creativity, you can create stunning beaded bows and felt ornaments that embody the essence of the season with a touch of coquette aesthetic.

DIY Coquette Christmas Ornaments
How to Make Beaded Felt Ornaments
Materials
- Assorted beads (choose according to your desired aesthetic)
- Felt
- Embroidery thread
- Hand sewing needle
- Sharp scissors
- Cotton balls or fiber fill stuffing
- Paper or cardstock
Step-by-Step Tutorial:
Create Your Template: Begin by designing the shape of your ornament. Draw your chosen shape on a piece of paper or cardstock, then cut it out to use as a template.
Trace and Cut: Place your template on the felt and trace around it. Cut two identical felt pieces for the ornament.
Separate Embroidery Thread: To prepare for beading, separate one strand from your embroidery thread. A quick tap on the end will help the strands come apart. Pull out a single strand and thread it through your needle.
Bead the Ornament: Let your creativity shine! Use a variety of beads to decorate one of the felt pieces. Don’t worry about the back – it’ll be hidden!
Attach the Back Piece: Align the other felt piece with your beaded design. Using your needle and embroidery thread, create a blanket stitch around the edges. For extra charm, consider adding a small bead between each stitch.
Stuff the Ornament: Leave a small gap as you stitch around the ornament. Fill it with cotton balls or stuffing to give it a plush look. Finish stitching to close the gap.
Add a Hanging Loop: Attach a ribbon or piece of twine to the top of the ornament with a few stitches. Now, your lovely beaded felt ornament is ready to hang!
How to Make Beaded Bow Ornaments
Materials:
- Assorted beads (choose according to your desired aesthetic)
- Wire (gauge depends on bead size)
- Super glue (optional for extra security)
Step-by-Step Tutorial:
Cut Your Wire: Measure and cut a piece of wire about 15-20 inches long. This will be the foundation of your beaded bow.
String Your Beads: Add your selected beads onto the wire. Remember, an odd number of beads is key for centering! For a larger bow, use larger beads.
Form the Bow: Find the middle bead. Take one end of the wire, loop it back through the middle bead, and pull to form a bow loop. Repeat with the other side.
Create the Tails: With the wire ends hanging down, add more beads to create the bow’s tails. Customize the length to your liking – perhaps 11 beads per tail for a balanced look.
Secure the Tails: Bend the wire at the end of each tail and wrap it around the last bead to lock it in place. For extra security, you can also add a drop of super glue.
Add a Hanging Loop: Attach a small piece of wire to the back of the center bead to create a loop for hanging.
