Itโs 5 oโclock somewhere. Welcome toย Happy Hour: a series where we try unique and exciting cocktails + mocktails together!
A few months back, I came across this video by the holistic nutrition influencer, Daphne Nunez. Intrigued by the ingredients and in search of a remedy for bloating, I decided to try out the recipe. After adjusting a few measurements, I now find myself making this on an almost weekly basis.
It’s widely known as the Digestion & Debloat Tonic and the original video has since gone pretty viral all over social media.
Today, I’m sharing my take on the recipe with a few added twists that you can implement to elevate it into a healthy mocktail option for your next happy hour. This is also something you can make in advance and keep stocked in your fridge for several days – because making healthy choices more convenient and eliminating obstacles is always a step in the right direction.
What makes this tonic supercharged with health benefits? It’s essentially a cocktail of powerful ingredients, each providing different health and healing properties that work together harmoniously.

Water: Water is essential for maintaining hydration levels in the body, aiding in digestion, nutrient absorption, circulation, and temperature regulation.
Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV): ACV contains acetic acid, which may help improve digestion by increasing stomach acid production and enhancing enzyme activity. Some studies suggest that ACV may improve insulin sensitivity and lower blood sugar levels after meals, which can be beneficial for individuals with diabetes or insulin resistance.
Aloe Vera Juice: Aloe vera contains compounds like polysaccharides and enzymes that support digestive health by soothing irritation, promoting bowel regularity, and reducing inflammation in the gastrointestinal tract. Aloe vera juice is also hydrating and can help replenish electrolytes, making it beneficial for overall hydration and skin health.
Lemon Juice: Lemons are rich in vitamin C, an antioxidant that supports immune function, and collagen synthesis, and helps protect cells from oxidative stress. Lemon juice may stimulate the production of bile, which aids in digestion and helps alleviate bloating.
Oat Fiber Powder: Oats are rich in soluble fiber, which can help lower LDL cholesterol levels and improve heart health by reducing the risk of cardiovascular disease. Oat fiber promotes bowel regularity and may help alleviate constipation by adding bulk to stools and supporting healthy bowel movements.
Dandelion Root Tincture: Dandelion root may act as a natural diuretic, helping to increase urine production and reduce water retention. It has been traditionally used to support liver health by promoting bile production and aiding in the detoxification process.
Cayenne Pepper: Cayenne pepper contains capsaicin, a compound that may boost metabolism, increase calorie expenditure, and promote fat oxidation. It can also stimulate digestive enzymes and may help improve digestion by enhancing gastric motility.
Manuka Honey: Manuka honey possesses potent antimicrobial properties due to its high concentration of methylglyoxal (MGO), which can help fight bacteria, viruses, and fungi.
Digestion + Debloat Mocktail Tonic Recipe
INGREDIENTS | approx. 5 cups
4 cups water
3 tbsp apple cider vinegar – unpasteurized with the “mother”
1/2 cup aloe vera juice
4 tbsp lemon juice
2 tbsp oat fiber powder
4 droppers dandelion root tincture
1/4 tsp cayenne pepper
1 tbsp manuka honey
(Adjust the amount of cayenne pepper and manuka honey to suit your desired levels of spiciness and sweetness.)
This recipe yields approximately 5 cups, an ideal fit for a 34-ounce pitcher that you can make in advance and enjoy multiple servings during the week. Simply prepare it on Sunday and refrigerate it to have a cup ready for each day from Monday to Friday. Remember to stir it well before serving, as the oat fiber powder tends to settle at the bottom.
You can also extend its yield by diluting it with water, which is what I do to make it last a few more days. I typically pour about 1/2 cup of the tonic over ice, then fill the rest of the glass with filtered water.
I aim to drink this as early in the day as possible, on an empty stomach.
To elevate this recipe into a fizzy mocktail for your next happy hour or social gathering, add a splash of ginger lime flavored sparkling water or prebiotic soda. For an extra kick, add a Tajin rim and jalapeno slices to give it a spicy twist. Serve it over ice in a stylish glass for that added flair that always goes a long way in mocktail-making.
