Itโs 5 oโclock somewhere. Welcome to Happy Hour: a series where we try unique and exciting cocktails together!
Today I’m sharing 3 super easy mocktail recipes that are perfect for anyone who’s looking for a fun and flavorful drink to enjoy during Dry January.
But first, what’s a mocktail?
If you’re not familiar with mocktails, they’re essentially alcohol-free “mock” cocktails (hence the name mocktails) made with various juices, sodas, herbs, syrups, and flavored waters. They look and feel like cocktails but without the harmful side effects of alcohol.
With an array of flavors and fresh garnishes, mocktails have become increasingly popular over the years and many restaurants have added them to their menus as more and more people are opting for a healthier lifestyle and are choosing to forgo the harmful effects of alcohol.
Whether you’ve decided to participate in Dry January or just need a break from alcohol, these mocktails are ideal to add to your collection of happy hour recipes.
The key to making a memorable mocktail
To me, what sets a mocktail apart from a regular glass of juice or sparkling water, are the extra details that go into the prep, the aesthetic, and the finishing touches.
To give your mocktail the look and feel of a cocktail, consider adding things like sugar or salt rims and garnishes like fresh fruit, flowers, or herbs.
Whenever I want to go the extra mile, I also make sure to use a cocktail shaker and aim to serve the finished drinks in a chilled (hopefully somewhat fancy or decorative) glass over uniquely shaped ice cubes and a funky glass straw. These are the things that make a mocktail memorable, while also enhancing the flavors and overall experience.
Here are some of my favorite mocktail-making essentials:
– cocktail shaker set
– Tajin (for rimming)
– flavored sugars and salts (for rimming)
– edible glitter
– drink stirrers
– cocktail picks
– edible flowers
– glass straws
– fun ice mold trays
