The last quarter of the year is always full of events, holidays, and plans non stop. But, as September is just around the corner, I felt inspired to brew a fresh cup of coffee, light a new candle, and sit down with my digital planner to create a FALL moodboard.
I love to take a few moments to chill and make a board of the ~vibes~ I’m currently feeling. It’s not only a super relaxing way to spend a morning, but also helps get some creative energy flowing for the new season ahead.
Although making a traditional paper cut out vision board is such a powerful (and nostalgic) activity, I have really grown to prefer the digital method of moodboarding over the past few years. There is so much room for creative freedom: from digitally illustrated stickers to labels and endless fonts. Plus the added benefit of the undo button, duh! And it’s something you can take with you everywhere – even save it as your phone or tablet background to help manifest even further. Click here to jump to my Moodboard Guide.
The moodboard I’m sharing in this post was created in The Living Life Digital Planner, using the Goodnotes app. The images are grabbed from Pinterest, and the illustrated decorative digital stickers are from my shop, TWG Designs.

MoodBoard Guide
A moodboard is similar to a vision board in that you’ll be combining elements (photos, quotes, ephemera, notes, etc.) in one place to encompass what you want to manifest into your life. It should give you an overall snapshot of the kind of material things, feelings, and goals you want to call into your life – or focus on during a given month, year, or season.
Here are 3 simple steps to creating a moodboard.
- Set the mood. Only take on your moodboard design on a day when you have a clear mind and feel good energy. Start by setting up a calm space. Clear out any clutter, and maybe bring forward objects that help set the vibe for you to get creative. I love lighting candles, laying out crystals and other aesthetic knickknacks that inspire me, and a cup of coffee or tea. Don’t forget about the music. I find that moodboards come together best when I’m in a state of flow with a great music playlist – this is definitely not the time to watch a reality tv show or serial killer documentary. Once you have your space set up, you should feel inspired to start designing your moodboard.
- Create a mind map. First, determine what your moodboard is for. Will it aid in pulling together a theme for a party? Will it be an overall board for a specific month or year? (In today’s case, my moodboard was FALL themed, so it is meant to encompass the objects and energy I want to attract around the last quarter of the year.) Next, take the time to think about the goals you want to achieve, how you want to feel, what objects or material items you want, etc. Then, source images that encompass all of this. You can also use quotes or writing, but there’s something very powerful about the VISUAL elements of the board. Think of your board as a “one stop shop” that you can focus on daily to really hone in on a mantra or help visualize during a morning meditation. Tip: try to incorporate elements for all 5 senses in your moodboard.
- Visualize. Lastly, really take the time to sit and stare at your board. It will feel strange at first but just dedicate 5 to 10 minutes of quietly observing all of the details you placed on the board. Imagine yourself living inside the images and feeling what you’d feel if you had achieved the goals you set out for yourself. Place yourself in a make-believe world where everything on the board is really a part of your life, down to the tiniest detail. Then practice this daily or as often as you can and you’ll be surprised, when looking back, at just how many aspects of the board you’ve “magically” manifested into your life. ♥
