Bisou, bisou! Today’s DIY is just in time for Valentine’s Day… although you can definitely make this for an anniversary, birthday, or just-for-fun occasion if you’re feeling extra romantic.
Typically I don’t care much for gifts on holidays like these, but I do think the best kind of Valentine’s Day gift is the handmade kind. So I combined my recent obsession with learning French on Duolingo, and this post I saw on Pinterest, to come up with a fun and flirty gift idea.
These “French Kisses” turned out super cute, with handwritten phrases that can totally be customized to say whatever you’d like! (Scroll to the end of the post to see the exact list of phrases I used. I’m still a novice so don’t mind if some aren’t grammatically correct!)

If you’re not into French notes, you can turn this DIY gift into a fun game instead by adding a number to the front of each smooch and gifting them alongside a fancy set of dice. To play, simply roll the dice and pull the corresponding number smooch to reveal a love note, date idea, spicy action word, etc. written on the back. SO many fun possibilities to play with here!
Let’s get into it!

French Kisses | Valentine’s Day DIY
MATERIALS
- Paper or cardstock (I used watercolor paper for added texture)
- Assorted lipsticks in shades of red/pink/peach/nude (all my faves listed here!)
- Scissors
- Pen or marker (I used my favorite Micron archival ink pen)
- Clear packing tape (2″ wide)
- Makeup remover wipes (+ a good lip mask to rehydrate afterward!)

HOW TO
Start by cutting your paper into strips that will fit the width of your lips/kisses.
Apply a thick coat of lipstick to your lips, and plant a smooch right onto the paper to create a lip stamp/stain effect.

Cut around the lip shape leaving a small border. Set aside to let the lipstick dry for a few minutes.
Then take a smudge proof pen or marker and write whatever you’d like on the back. This is where you can get creative and make this extra personalized.

To create a faux laminated effect, cover the front and back of each kiss with a piece of clear packing tape. Press down firmly around the paper’s edges to create a nice seal and remove air bubbles.
Then cut around the tape leaving a small border.

Repeat these steps with as many different lipstick shades as you’d like. I created 25 individual “kisses” using a combination of 12 different lipsticks in shades of red, pink, peach, and nude. My go-to lippies are the NYX soft matte lip creams.
The best part is that each kiss will look slightly different, adding even more to the personalized touch!
Note: I found that using a thicker coat of matte formula lipsticks created the best transfer results.

And that’s it! These little “laminated” kisses are then ready to be gifted to your special someone. You can place them in a small gift box along with a thoughtful card and some chocolate. Or pair them with a set of dice (if you opted for the game version) inside a drawstring pouch and create a little “rule” card to go with it.
