In this post I’ll be sharing an easy DIY project using thrifted denim and fabric paint.

I’m calling this a “thrift flip” but this project can be applied to any pair of denim that you already have in your collection. But, if you’re a newbie with fabric paint, I do suggest using an inexpensive or thrifted pair – just to kind of test the waters and avoid potentially ruining your favorite pair of jeans.
Let’s get into it!
DIY Painted Star Jeans

MATERIALS
- denim / pants (suggest trying this out on an old or thrifted pair)
- fabric paint (or fabric marker)
- paint brush
- something to prevent paint transfer
HOW TO

There isn’t much of a step-by-step process for this DIY… other than, well, paint stars all over! π I recommend slipping something inside the pant leg to prevent the paint from transferring through to the other side of the fabric. I used a shipping polymailer, but you can use a piece of cardboard, shoebox lid, plastic bag, etc.
Tip for drawing stars: start with an outline of a star and then fill it in.
I opted to cover the entire front of one pant leg for an asymmetric look, but I might go back and continue adding stars to the back as well!

This type of design tends to look best with a combination of different sized stars, but I think it’s totally a personal preference.
Let the paint dry overnight and you’re all set!

This was so simple, quick, and ended up having such a big impact. I think this is a great way to spice up an old forgotten pair of jeans and give them a second life.
