As someone who typically wears neutral colors, I like to play with accessories to add fun pops of interest to an outfit. Jewelry, scarves, belts, and headbands can be found at so many different price points and really elevate your look with minimal effort.
Today, I’m sharing my personal favorite ways to style a simple square scarf.
- the low pony – gather all your hair to one side and secure into a loose, low ponytail using a standard hair tie/elastic. Fold the scarf diagonally into a long strip and tie around the hair elastic.
- the high pony – gather hair into a super high pony at the crown of your head and secure with a standard hair tie/elastic. Wrap the scarf around the base of the ponytail and tie a knot. Flip the scarf upside down so that the tail ends of the knot are underneath the ponytail.
- the knotted headband – this can be done with hair loose or up in a ponytail. Start by placing the scarf behind the head close to the nape of the neck, and bring the ends up to the top. Tie into a knot, and then tuck the tail ends underneath the sides of the scarf to hide them.
- the boho bracelet – this tends to looks best with smaller scarves. Fold the scarf diagonally into a long strip and simply wrap around your wrist enough times to secure a knot with short tails.
- the neck tie – fold the scarf diagonally and tie around the neck. You can leave the tail ends of the knot on the front, or flip them around to the back and have a “v” shape in the front instead.
- the beach bun – this is the perfect way to add an accessory to a beach/pool day while keeping hair up and out of the way. Secure your hair up into a bun and wrap the scarf around it several times until you can comfortably tie it into a knot. You can tuck in the tail ends or leave them poking out like a bow.
- the bag lady – simply tie the scarf around the handles or straps on a handbag for an instantly chic vibe.
- the boho belt – this works best with larger scarves. Fold the scarf diagonally into a long strip and tie around your waist. Wear with flowy dresses to cinch the waist in, or through the belt loops on your favorite denim.
