Welcome to the FINALE / VOL.5 of #FrightFemmes – today we are closing out our 2023 series with 3 CLASSIC Halloween makeup & costumes!
If you’re just joining us, click here to read the intro post… but, here’s a quick recap in a nutshell:
The #FrightFemmes collab is an ode to our love for all things Halloween… especially, the makeup & costuming. During the month of October, I’m teaming up with Caro from @blonde2brunette and Ruthmarie from @the.vintage.raven to share weekly themed makeup and costume ideas with the hopes of inspiring others to tap into their creative flow all season long. This year, we’re also including lifestyle DIY projects, so there’s a little bit of magic for everyone to enjoy! Be sure to follow the official @FrightFemmes page on Instagram to keep up with our looks and projects… we’ll be posting content daily and can’t wait to see you there!
The LOOKS:
+ Caro (Glam Witch)
+ Ruthmarie (Constance from The Haunted Mansion)
+ Laura (Vampiress)
Caro – Glam Witch
Caro loves a good witchy moment (check out her witch themed Halloween decor installation to see for yourself!) so when the theme this week was CLASSIC Halloween makeup and costumes, there was just no question! However, no hook noses or ugly warts here!! Caro took this in a glam direction with added sparkle and a stunning bold red lip. I’m always in awe of the way she makes a full facepaint MUA application look so flawless and almost airbrushed! She paired this look with a touseled wavy wig and an oversized hat, adding the perfect bewitched finishing touches.

Ruthmarie – Constance from The Haunted Mansion
By now we know to often expect a head-to-toe look from Ruthmarie, and this week is no exception! Ruthmarie pulled inspiration from her favorite Walt Disney World ride, The Haunted Mansion, to create this Constance look! Not only is the makeup application gorgeous and precise, but she also made the entire costume out of second hand and upcycled materials (my personal favorite!)… there’s just so much detail to take in, even down to the glowing heart! You definitely don’t want to miss her blog post where she goes into detail and shares her sewing expertise.

Laura – Vampiress
blood drip candle | brass candlestick holder | cobwebs | black creepy cloth | DIY coffin prop
Last weekend, I hosted my very first Halloween Murder Mystery Party… and of course, the theme was VAMPIRES.
It was such an elaborate gathering, full of planning and prep work, but in the end, I’m thrilled with the way it turned out!
Check out the complete post here: Vampire Themed Murder Mystery Party (How to host a vampire themed murder mystery party for halloween, birthdays, or any occasion! Where to find and purchase a murder mystery game kit, how to plan and prep before the party, decoration and food ideas, and a DIY cardboard coffin prop for photo backdrop installation!)
For this week’s CLASSIC theme, I am essentially tapping into some big VAMP energy, and creating the makeup and costume look that I would have worn to my murder mystery party if I had more time to get ready, HA!
It’s such a simple yet effective costume that can truly be thrown together for a last minute Halloween costume party or event… just gather black items from your closet and add the key vampire accessories.
It’s all about the dramatic glam and a bit of blood drip to sell the vibe. You can even take it one step further and add a pair of colored contacts for that icy undead stare.

Putting together the Vampiress Look:
Makeup:
- Red smokey eye – Create a dramatic smokey eye using shades of red, brown, and black. This palette has the perfect shades for this look! Add more depth around the top and bottom lashlines using black eyeliner and wing the eyeshadow up and out to create a more angled look. Add flared corner lashes placed slightly above the natural lashline for the illusion of added lift. Then extend the eyeshadow far down underneath the bottom lashline, creating a soft gradient effect, until it almost meets with your blush and contour.
- Exaggerated contour – Speaking of contour, make it a bit more exaggerated than usual. Vampires are known to be gaunt and have prominent cheekbones. Use your usual contour shade, and a bit of red/burgundy to keep the colors cohesive.
- Blood stained lips – For this look, I wanted to create a bold lip, but one that felt almost “un-done” like I had just been feeding on some fresh O+ blood. To achieve this I used a combination of brown lip liner and red gloss, making sure to dab the products around the edges of my lips to create that stained effect. Then, finished with a super shiny plumping gloss and some faux blood drips.
- Shimmer – I kept the look more matte for this post, but if you wear this look out on the town or to a costume party, I highly recommend adding some shimmer! You can use an illuminating highlighter, shimmer spray, or a sparkling powder with sponge applicator to dust over your face and chest for that classic sparkling vampire glow.
Complete the look with:
– Fangs: these are my favorite!
– colored contacts: I ordered this exact pair and would totally recommend.
– Stiletto nails: you can go your usual manicure route, but I suggest opting for some easy press-ons. There are so many inexpensive options to choose from and you don’t have to commit to the extra long claws until your next nail appointment. I used this set of matte red nails, and this is my go-to glue for press on nails.
Outfit + Styling:
For the outfit, you most likely already have everything you need. Pull together an all-black ensemble, preferably using pieces in lace, velvet, satin, or tulle. I wore a simple satin slit mini skirt with lace trim, a corset bustier top, and I added the vampy drama with this sheer and velvet burnout flare sleeved shrug.
The accessories are what really emphasize the look. I added a pair of oversized gothic cross earrings, a black and red tiara, and a large crystal brooch.
Overall, this look is equal party sassy and mysterious, and something about those fangs will have you feeling in character throughout the night!
