As a self-proclaimed DIY nail girly, I love to pull out the darker shades during the fall and autumn seasons.
A few months back, I took the time to create swatches of my entire gel nail polish collection. This has made my color selection process much more streamlined and I actually really enjoy the process of making a new swatch every time I add a new shade to my collection. It’s become a relaxing hobby that I really look forward to.
For moody manicures, I tend to gravitate towards warmer tones in the red family – oxblood, burgundy, etc. But, I also really love to throw in some deep greens and chocolate browns.
Today I’m sharing some of my favorite tones to reach for when I’m craving a moody manicure. I’ll be featuring gel polishes specifically because they are my go-to for DIY manicures, and I swear by this entire gel manicure process to make them last upwards of 2 weeks!
While the short natural nail look is always a favorite, if you’re curious about DIY nail extensions, definitely check out this post as I go into my complete step-by-step process for achieving salon-style extensions at home! Sometimes it’s fun to switch it up and add some length for a special occasion, or just a boost in confidence. I think the longer nails also look extra moody with darker shades.
Let’s dive in!
My favorite moody reds:
– Antique Ruby by Beetles
– Deep Cherry Red by Maychao
My favorite moody greens:
– Emma Emerald by Beetles
– Green from Jewhitney
My favorite moody browns:
– Caramel Coco from Born Pretty
– Brown 1403 by Gaoy
My favorite almost-black-brown:
– AC03-6 by Awsm Color
This last one is truly the quintessential moody “FALL” shade. It’s the perfect deep brown that gives off the drama without the intensity of a completely black manicure.
Don’t forget to finish every mani with a generous application of cuticle oil!
