I find that this routine feels light, is comfortable to wear for long periods, and doesn’t look cakey or overdone/too dramatic for day-to-day life. Plus, it only takes me 10 minutes to complete from start to finish! BONUS: I only use 4 tools and 10 products – all from the drugstore!
Quick and Easy Natural Makeup Routine
The Tools
- face brush – I use the ELF Bronzing Brush because I like the angled cut.
- medium eyeshadow blending brush – I use the ELF Blending Eye Brush
- small eyeshadow brush – I use the ELF Eye Crease Brush
- makeup sponge – I use the Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge
The Products
- concealer in your skin tone – I use L’Oreal Infallible Pro-Glow Concealer in the shade “Creamy Natural”
- concealer in a darker shade – I use Maybelline FIT Me Concealer in the shade “Cafe”
- brightening/neutralizing concealer – I use Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Multi-Use Concealer in the shade “ Neutralizer”
- face powder in your skin tone – I use NYX Stay Matte Not Flat Powder Foundation in the shade “Warm Beige”
- face powder in a darker shade – I use L’Oreal True Match Powder in the shade “Cappuccino”
- eyebrow gel – I use NYX Tinted Brow Mascara in the shade “Brunette”
- soft eyeliner – I use NYX Retractable Eye Liner in the shade “Bronze”
- mascara – I use Covergirl Lash Blast Volume in the shade “Very Black”
- cream blush – I use NYX Stick Blush in the shade “Tea Rose”
- colored lip balm – I use Maybelline Baby Lips in the shade “Cherry Me”
The Process
- Even skin tone! Apply concealer that matches your skin tone to problem areas of the face to even out your skin. I apply it to acne scars. Blend out using the makeup sponge. TIP: only apply to areas where you need it. For best results try to find the closest color match to your skin.
- Brighten things up! Apply brightening concealer under the eyes, inner eye corners, and eyelids, around the nostrils, and on the high points of cheekbones. Blend out using the makeup sponge. TIP: only add to areas where you want to brighten or bring features forward. Brighter products make features appear larger and more pronounced.
- Add more dimension! Apply darker shade concealer in hollows of the cheeks, on the forehead around the hairline, and anywhere else you want to fake a “shadow.” Blend out using the makeup sponge. TIP: for hooded eyelids, apply a bit of this in your crease. I also apply it under the tip of my nose to shorten it. Darker products make features appear smaller and more recessed.
- Lock it all in! Set all of the cream products with powders in matching colors. Apply the powder in your skin tone wherever you applied the concealer in your skin tone, and apply the darker powder wherever you applied the darker concealer. TIP: use the same face brush for both powders to save time. You don’t need 2 different tools for this.
- Define the brows! Use the brow gel to fill in and set the brows. I like this type of product because it acts as a 2-in-1, again saving you time and $
- Enhance your eyes! Take the same darker shade of face powder and use the eyeshadow blending brush to apply it to the crease of your eyes in a windshield wiper motion. Take the brown eyeliner and run it over the outer corners of the top and bottom lash lines. Use the small eyeshadow brush to blend out the eyeliner until it just looks like a slight shadow that fades out seamlessly. TIP: when you think you’re done blending, blend even more.
- Lengthen your lashes! Add mascara to the top and bottom lashes. TIP: if you want to create a more sultry cat eye look, apply the mascara in a sweeping motion that forces the lashes to point out towards the outer corners of the eyes.
- Add a pop of color! At this point, you’ve got a ton of really natural/neutral shades all over the face. Add some cream blush to the apples of your cheeks to bring some life back into the face with a rose or peach toned flush. Apply with fingers or the other side of the makeup sponge. TIP: add some to the nose and above the eyebrows for a more sunkissed glow.
- Hydrate your lips! Use a balm, gloss, or moisturizing lip product with a slight tint. This gives off the most natural look and is super low maintenance throughout the day.
- Melt it all together! Take the makeup sponge and just tap it all over the face, making sure each product is nicely blended. Drag the remaining product that’s left on the sponge down the jawline and neck to avoid any harsh lines. This would also be the time to add a setting spray if that’s your thing.
And that’s it! 10 products, 10 steps, 10 minutes!
