It’s finally time to start pulling out the Halloween decor… and today I’m excited to share what I’ve done with my little foyer console table.
If you’ve seen my Halloween decor posts from past years, you’ll know that I tend to focus my decor on one spot of the house. Mostly because I’m not a fan of too much decor/clutter, but also because I know I’ll be hosting a small Halloween gathering this year so I’ll be fully decking the place out for that near the end of the month.
In the past, I’ve decorated my tv console unit, and my bar cabinet in a “chic apothecary” theme using potion bottles, and creepy found objects in a chic neutral color palette. (Be sure to check out those posts if you’re looking for more inspo.)
This year, I thought I’d try something new in my foyer and use torn pages from thrifted books for a more whimsical moment. When I found a black and gold fortune teller bust at a thrift store, I knew right away that I wanted her to greet people as they entered our home. I added a few books, candles, and some creepy crawlers to finish off the spooky-chic vibe.
The details:
- Creepy cloth: I love to use this as a base for my Halloween decor/displays because it adds the perfect layer of texture. Since my console table is dark wood, I used a beige creepy cloth (instead of the usual black) for more contrast.
- Thrifted “found” objects: The fortune teller bust, candlestick holders, and tall vase are all thrifted finds. I actually use most of them year round throughout my home as I switch things up between seasons.
- Book Pages: Pretty self explanatory… I just ripped a few pages out of a thrifted book – tearing them by hand and crumpling them up a bit for a more distressed look. I might also add a bit of brown paint to some edges of the pages for more dimension.
- Spellbook: This is a quick DIY project. I took a thrifted hardcover book and took off the paper sleeve. Next I printed off the cover and spine designs, you can find a similar freebie printable cover here, and used Mod Podge to adhere them. I also added some brown paint for a more aged look.
- Keep it functional: I swapped out our usual catch-all bowl for a simple gold tray instead. This keeps our foyer table functional while staying on theme.
Recreate the look with similar items: creepy cloth | gold candlestick holder | black pillar candle holder | rustic vase | crescent moon planter | skull | black crow | catchall tray | brown spider | candle snuffer | black spiders
