Coloring has been known to help reduce stress, calm the mind, and serve as a relaxing creative outlet. It’s the perfect way to spend some quality self-care time while enjoying a cup of coffee or a glass of wine! Today I wanted to share an easy way to enjoy and use your adult coloring pages digitally using Procreate App – my all time favorite digital design tool.
I’ll also be sharing a freebie download of this cozy corner room scene, illustrated by me!
How to use digital coloring pages for adults in Procreate app
Step 1: import your color page to a new canvas on Procreate.
Step 2: create a new layer and drag it underneath the color page layer.
Step 3: set your coloring page layer mode to “multiply”
Step 4: start coloring on the new layer you’ve added underneath!
Setting the coloring page layer to “multiply” will allow you to color on layers underneath. The black lines of the coloring page will still show and act as a guide.
The best part about digital coloring is that you can use and abuse that UNDO button if you “color outside the lines” ๐
There are also SO many fun features on the Procreate app that can take your coloring to the next level! Add textures, use tons of different brushes, play with clipping masks and color blending modes, etc.
TIPS:
– use a different layer for each color so you can easily adjust hues later on if you’d like to!
– rename your layers to stay extra organized. Ex: when coloring the cat, name that layer “cat” so that you can later go back to adjust the colors or add shadows/highlights to the cat using clipping masks.
– don’t have a JPEG or PDF file of a color page? Take a clear photo of a printed coloring page (or one from a coloring book) and import it to Procreate. Then follow the same steps above.
